Turkish Commonwealth
The Turkish Commonwealth, originally created as the Ottoman Commonwealth, is a economic cooperation, political and self-defense treaty signed between Turkey and some former states that once were part of the Ottoman Empire.
The Ottoman Commonwealth was created in 1876 as a mechanism to grant the independence of Serbia, in order to ensure Serbia would not become an enemy of the Empire. It include protection to established ethnic and religious minorities within Serbia, Serbia mandated neutrality if the Empire was attacked by a foreign power, and Ottoman compromise to defend Serbia if attacked.
In 1877 a similar clause was granted to Montenegro and Romania. That same year the Principality of Bulgaria was created by promising a future independence under Commonwealth status.
